A recent report released by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation warns that highly targeted attacks are being leveled specifically at law firms, lawyers, and their associates. These attacks use legitimate looking emails, to entice unsuspecting users into clicking on links, or opening attachments; which may cause the users PC to disclose confidential information to an attacker.
“These attacks use plausible email subjects, making them difficult to filter without blocking legitimate emails,” said Bobby Kuzma, president of Lakeland, FL based Central Florida Technology Solutions. “The only defense is heightened user alertness.” Kuzma continued, “If you suspect that systems in your organization may have been compromised, please seek the assistance of a qualified Information Security specialist to assess the scope of the compromise, and to contain it.”
Specific indicators of compromise include attempts to access files located at the ueopen.com domain.
